Scenarios

Scenarios lists the scenarios in the project: each one a state of your supply-chain network, saved by a workflow. The Viewer shows one scenario in detail.

A scenario is made by a workflow that ends in a Create Scenario node. Build and run one on the Workflows page, or ask your agent to.

What the page shows

Each scenario shows:

  • its Name, the workflow that produced it, and its current Version;
  • its Description;
  • how many Locations and Links (lanes) its network has;
  • its Horizon, the period it covers;
  • its Origin: Computed by a run, Imported from a file, or Restored from an earlier version. Hover over the origin to see which run, file or version it was;
  • when it was last Updated.

A scenario produced by an optimization carries a badge about the quality of its plan, such as Optimal or Best found in time, quality unproven. Hover over the badge to read what it means.

Search by name or description, and switch between tiles and a table. In the tile view you can also sort, for example by horizon or number of locations.

Actions on a scenario

  • Press a scenario to open it in the Viewer.
  • Edit details changes its name and description.
  • Download saves the scenario as a file that can be imported into another project.
  • Import scenario reads such a file into this project. Its progress shows under Uploads in the sidebar.
  • Delete removes the scenario with all its versions. A scenario that a dashboard shows can only be deleted together with that dashboard, and SCMotif asks before deleting both.

Versions and history

Each run of its workflow, and each restore, adds a new version of a scenario. Press History next to the version to see them all.

For each version, the history shows when it was saved and Inputs used: the scenarios and data sources it was built from, with the version of each. An input that has since been deleted is marked as deleted.

  • Open version shows that version in the Viewer, exactly as it was saved.
  • Restore as current makes an earlier version current again. It is saved as a new version, so nothing is lost. Workflows that read the scenario use the restored version from their next run. Dashboards that already show a version keep showing it.

When an input has a newer version than the one the current scenario was built from, the Viewer says Newer inputs available. Run the scenario's workflow again to bring it up to date.

See Versions and storage for how runs choose their inputs, what restoring changes, and which history you can remove to free space.

The Viewer

The Viewer shows one scenario. Choose which one with Switch scenario; with none chosen, it opens the scenario that changed most recently.

The header names the scenario and its version, and Show details lists its time horizon, currency, the workflow that produced it and the inputs it used. Below it, View: switches between:

  • Graph: the network as connected locations;
  • Sankey: how volume flows from one stage of the network to the next;
  • Map: the locations on a map, when they have coordinates;
  • Tables: every table in the scenario, grouped as Network, Demand, Supply, Inventory, Production, Handling and Bill of materials.

Filter by location type, location or product to look at part of the network. Select a location to open its details.

Comparing scenarios

Two scenarios are compared on a dashboard, for example a baseline against its optimized counterpart. Ask your agent for a dashboard that compares them. The dashboard keeps the versions it compares, so the comparison stays the same until you update it to the latest results.
