Data sources

Data Sources holds the files of a project. A data source is a named set of files: a table that workflows read, or a document your agent can read. Each new file joins a data source as its latest file, and the earlier files stay beside it.

Upload files

Press Upload Files and choose one or more files. Each file starts a new data source of the same name. SCMotif accepts:

  • tables as CSV or XLSX;
  • documents as Markdown or plain text.

Older Excel files (.xls) are refused. Open them in Excel and save them as .xlsx first.

Each upload shows its progress under Uploads in the sidebar, so you can keep working on another page. If you close or reload the page before an upload finishes, it appears under Unfinished uploads. Choose the same file again to continue where it stopped, or press Cancel upload. An unfinished upload keeps its file name reserved until it finishes, is cancelled or expires.

If your connection drops while SCMotif is reading a file, the upload shows Reconnecting… and keeps trying. If the connection stays down, the upload shows not confirmed: the file may still finish. It updates on its own once the connection is back, so there is no need to upload the file again.

Your agent can upload files to the same project. See Upload a file.

Add a newer file to a data source

When the data behind a data source is refreshed, such as a new month's export, choose Add file on that data source and pick the new file. It becomes the data source's latest file. Workflows that read the latest file use it from their next run, without being edited.

A file's name is never given to another file, so the new file needs a name of its own, such as shipments-2026-11.csv. A name already used in the project is refused.

What the page shows

The page has two sections, Tables and Documents. Switch between tiles and a table with Tile view and Table view. When a section holds more than a few data sources, a search box filters it by name, type or column.

Each data source is shown by its latest file. In the table view, it shows its Name, Type, Size, Rows and Columns (for tables), and when its latest file was Added. A table whose columns need attention shows how many warnings it has.

Actions on a data source

  • Press a data source, or choose Preview data, to see its latest file's first rows and columns. For a document, Read document shows its text.
  • Download saves its latest file to your computer.
  • Add file uploads a newer file into it.
  • Delete removes the data source and all its files permanently; the confirmation says how many files go with it. Select several data sources to delete them together.
  • To rename a data source, press its name and type the new one. Its files keep their names.

The files of a data source

A data source that holds more than one file shows how many, and its tile names its Latest file. Press N files to open Files, which lists each file newest first, with when it was added and how many rows it had.

  • Download saves that file.
  • Restore as latest copies an earlier file as the newest one. Workflows that read the latest file use it from their next run. Results already worked out are not changed.
  • Delete removes one file. When it was the latest, the newest file left becomes the latest.

A workflow's Save Data step writes its own data source. Each run of that step adds a file named after the data source with its number, such as costs [version 3].csv. Files cannot be uploaded into a data source a workflow writes.

When storage runs low

When your account is nearly full, the page says how much space is left. A full account refuses new uploads and new workflow runs. Free up space lets you delete previous versions of scenarios and earlier files of data sources you no longer need; see Versions and storage for what is removed and what stays.
