Projects and the project home

A project holds one piece of work. This page covers the list of your projects, the home page each project opens on, and the project brief.

The sidebar

The sidebar is the same on every page. At the top, the project switcher shows the project you are in. Press it to search your projects, switch to another one, start a New project, or Manage projects. Below it are the project's pages: Data Sources, Workflows, Scenarios, Viewer, Dashboards and Project brief, then Settings. The pages of a project stay greyed out until you have chosen one.

At the bottom, Documentation opens this guide at the page for the screen you are on.

While a file is uploading, an Uploads entry appears in the sidebar with its progress. Press it to see each upload, open what it created, or Clear finished.

Projects

Projects lists everything you can open, in two groups: My projects and Demos. Each card shows the project's name, its summary (the first paragraph of its brief) and how many scenarios, workflows, dashboards and data sources it holds. Press a card to open the project.

  • New project asks for a name and opens the new project straight away.
  • The ⋯ menu on a card offers Open, Rename and Delete project…. Deleting a project removes all its data sources, workflows, scenarios and dashboards, and cannot be undone. To confirm, you type the project's name.

When you have no projects yet, SCMotif builds a demo project for you. It uploads the demo's files, runs its workflows and builds its dashboard, and the page shows its progress while it builds. Walk through a demo then shows you around it. Demo projects are yours to explore and change.

Project home

Opening a project lands on its home page. The home page shows:

  • the project's name and summary;
  • four cards, Data sources, Workflows, Scenarios and Dashboards, each with a count and a link to its page. When some of a dashboard's tiles can no longer be worked out, the Dashboards card says how many dashboards need a rebuild;
  • Recent work: the items in the project that changed most recently, of any kind. A scenario opens in the Viewer.

The logo at the top of the sidebar brings you back here from any page.

Project brief

The brief states the project's goal, its standing assumptions and what is out of scope. Name the currency and the units you work in, and which forecast is the baseline. Your agent reads the brief when it works in the project, so you do not have to repeat these assumptions in every question.

The first paragraph of the brief becomes the project's summary in the project list and the switcher. Under the editor, a preview shows how that summary will read.

Open Project brief in the sidebar, or Write the brief on the home page of a project that has none.

  • Edit opens the brief as Markdown. Save keeps your changes; Cancel discards them.
  • Download saves the brief as a Markdown file.
  • Upload replaces the brief with a Markdown or plain-text file.

If someone else, or your agent, changed the brief while you were editing, saving tells you so and shows the brief as it now stands. Choose Use the stored brief to keep theirs, or Save mine over it to keep yours.
